Strawberry Spinach Salad Recipe

I think I went almost two weeks without consuming a raw vegetable during Jazz Fest. It’s true. And for those who know me, you know that’s a big deal. Because I love raw veggies. Salads are really among one of my favorite foods. I love how customizable they are in terms of lettuces, ingredients and dressings. The possibilities are endless!! And I couldn’t be happier about that.

Strawberry Spinach Salad with Blue Cheese, Red Onion, Spicy Candied Pecans and Champagne Vinaigrette

Yesterday I brought you spicy candied pecans in preparation for today – a strawberry spinach salad recipe. Along with the titular ingredients, it also features some of my personal favorites: blue cheese, red onion and of course, spicy candied pecans. And bonus – the dressing is a champagne vinaigrette. Kinda like the icing on the cake. Because, I mean, what’s better than champagne and strawberries? I sure can’t think of anything!

Key Ingredients for Strawberry Spinach Salad

This salad seems like the type of salad that even non-salad lovers would enjoy. The robust flavors of the ingredients are satisfying. And we’ve got all the bases covered – sweet (strawberries), crunchy (pecans), creamy (blue cheese), aromatic (red onion), and salty/vinegary (dressing). Some might even say it’s pretty much the perfect salad. I sure do think so!

Oh and guess what, I also did something interesting with the spinach. Instead of just adding whole leaves to the salad, I’ve used the chiffonade technique, which means the leaves are rolled and then thinly sliced. To me, this make the whole salad much easier to eat and ensures more even distribution ratio of salad toppings to spinach. Which is key to a good, high quality salad. Each bite should contain most of the ingredients so that the flavors are consistent. No one wants a mouthful of bland spinach leaves. No sir.

Try this – take some time this week to make this or any salad for dinner. If this salad doesn’t seem hardy enough, you can eat it as a first course or add some grilled chicken to it for a really robust meal. We try to eat salads at least one night a week. It’s an especially great idea in the spring/summer when salad ingredients are plentiful, and it’s too darn hot to turn on the oven to bake a pizza. Strawberry Spinach Salad Recipe

This spinach salad recipe features highly delicious ingredients like strawberries, blue cheese, spicy candied pecans and a luscious champagne vinaigrette.



  • 1-5 ounce bag baby spinach, chiffonade
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 1 recipe spicy candied pecans
  • 4 tablespoons high-quality blue cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion


  • 1/4 cup champagne vinegar
  • 3/4 cup light olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper


  • Toss spinach and strawberries in the dressing (about two tablespoons of dressing; add more if desired).
  • Top with pecans, blue cheese and red onion.
  • Serve immediately.
